We three sisters in soul - Julie, Jen and Syndy - have 'crafted' together for many years. We are passionate about many things – faith, family, enriching others’ lives and... don't forget quilting and patchwork.
We have quilt designs running rampant within and it was a natural progression to share these as quilt patterns, as well as stories that have inspired us, hence the beginning of SoulStitchers. Each of our quilts has a story.
As the world around us becomes more insular and fast paced, we particularly enjoy the community and ‘come aside’ aspects that quilting enhances. We just love all things quilting...
Aah, the richness of those beautiful fabrics, the amazing variety of patterns available (we’ve combined all sorts of techniques from appliqué, scrappy attic quilts, samplers, foundation piecing and so on. And the history behind many of the traditional pieced blocks is fascinating!
It was difficult to decide upon which quilting design to release first so we chose our beginner quilt pattern, woven around 1 Corinthians 13. “Love is the Greatest Gift” reflects all the warmth and positive attributes of love, both in the making and giving of the quilt.
It really is an easy quilt pattern for those who would like to learn how to make a quilt, without the "quilting for dummy" tag - how insulting! More encouraging, I would say quilting for beginner, though not without challenges and interest for those more experienced.
Our quilt projects have easy to read instructions, full size templates for tracing and heaps of colour photos to guide you through, hopefully inspiring confidence resulting in a finished project rather than something thrown in the bottom of a cupboard somewhere. They are also designed for easy machine quilting to finish them off, or you can hand-quilt if you are so inspired.
Another passion is giving back.
Breast cancer has touched each of our lives and our first quilt was donated to help our friend, Suzanna, a breast cancer survivor of 4 years, in her breast cancer awareness fundraising efforts. We have made and given other quilts as we are touched by stories of those around us. We also support the Mukti Mission, India as they endeavour to transform lives of destitute girls & women, and Musaale working in Uganda.
We invite fellow soul stitchers to share our journey, building a supportive community, encouraging women and embracing each one's unique creativity. We look forward to hearing from you.
